A-ware to expand Heerenveen plant

A-ware and Fonterra plan to significantly expand the production site in Heerenveen, the Netherlands. A-ware wants to increase cheese production, especially by expanding its product range. The production capacity is to be increased from 200,000 to 300,000 tonnes per year. The dairy also wants to start producing butter, milk powder and lactoferrin. Together with Fonterra, the company has submitted a permit application for the plans.

A-Ware can currently process about 2 billion litres of milk per year in Heerenveen. The planned expansion will take place in collaboration with Fonterra. Fonterra operates a factory for the production of dairy ingredients in Heerenveen. Here, whey is processed into derivatives for sports, diet and hospital foods, among others. The whey comes directly from A-ware.
