Microalgae-protein for cheese alternatives

Date: 26.10.2022Source: Brevel

Brevel, a microalgae-based alternative protein company, and Vgarden, Israeli manufacturer of plant-based foods, announced they are collaborating in creating plant-based cheeses and additional food products which will contain Brevel protein. Brevel will provide Vgarden with the microalgae protein, and Vgarden will develop plant-based foods products which incorporate the protein. First products are expected to be on shelves in 2023.

Brevel’s technology is the first globally to combine sugar-based fermentation of microalgae with a high concentration of light at industrial scales. The result is a protein that is color and flavor neutral, while keeping a low-price level as pea and soy. Brevel’s protein solves immediate challenges in plant-based products that need neutral flavored protein sources along a valuable nutritional profile.

Vgarden will manufacture Brevel-enriched cheeses in their factory in Northern Israel and will introduce these new cheeses to the global markets they serve, including Australia, the United States, the UK and Western Europe, and additional regions in 2023.
