Upfield, producer of vegetable margarines, spreads and cheeses, has announced its intention to open a state-of-the-art new Upfield Food Science Centre in Wageningen, the Netherlands. Upfield also plans to open a new Global Headquarters in Amsterdam. The new centre will see an investment of €50m.

Commenting on the investment, Group CEO David Haines said: “Today’s announcement demonstrates our commitment to ambitious, ground-breaking research and development. We have a good track record. Since Upfield was founded less than two years ago, we have already launched new, industry-leading plant-based cheese, cream and butter products. The new Upfield Food Science Centre will enable us to accelerate our ambitious agenda and develop even more options to help consumers eat great tasting, natural, plant-based foods that are not only good for their health but also good for the planet. As the world leader in plant-based nutrition, we have great hopes for the future of the category from this investment.“
