The EU has extended the sanctions against Russia by one year. This is according to an EU Council statement published in Brussels today. The document states that the sanctions will be extended until 23 June 2021.
On 11 June, the ambassadors of the EU Member States had already agreed to extend the restrictive measures against Russia in Crimea.
The EU imposed sanctions against Russia in connection with the events in Ukraine in 2014. The EU sanctions policy has three independent tracks: Visa restrictions on Russian citizens, economic sector sanctions against a number of Russian state-owned companies in the oil, defence and financial sectors, and restrictive measures for Crimea.
