Italian dairy company Granarolo (turnover € 1.3 billion) has developed a new e-commerce portal. Company boss Giampiero Calzolari commented: “The lockdown has accelerated the modernisation of the entire food supply chain, especially for milk”.
The new e-commerce portal “Spacciogranarolo.it” was launched about a month ago, the reason for its development was that the lockdown hindered fresh milk sales. According to Calzolari, e-commerce accounts for 2-3% of Granarolo’s turnover. This is not expected to increase too much and the new platform will improve communication with the consumer. For the time being, online orders will be processed within 48 hours in 500 municipalities in the north of Italy for orders of €30 or more, free of distribution costs, and the sales radius will gradually be extended to Rome and then to the south. E-commerce will be available for fresh products and cheese, egg and semolina pasta and products from small local producers (sausages and pastries, ready meals, salads, drinks and fruit juices).
The Granarolo Group has 2 772 employees and a milk input of 850 million kg. 77.48% of the group is controlled by Consorzio Granlatte, 19.78% by Intesa Sanpaolo and the remaining 2.74% by Cooperlat.
