Cheese and dairy prices in Egypt have jumped by up to 20% in recent weeks. Mohamed El-Damaty, vice president of the Food Industries Chamber at the Federation of Egyptian Industries, partly attributes the price hikes to high shipping costs linked to regional tensions. He warned that prolonged tensions could push production costs higher, as factories struggle to absorb rising input costs while keeping products affordable.
Market data show that powdered milk prices in Egypt have climbed from $2,400–2,600/ton at the start of the year to more than $3,600/ton.
Some wholesalers are also reportedly building up cheese stocks amid expectations of further price volatility, according to traders.
