Capra invest €6.3m in membrane filtration

Belgian goat’s cheese producer Capra in Halen (a subsidiary of the French cooperative Agrial/Eurial since 2009, with a turnover of €7.3bn) has commissioned a new membrane filtration plant. The investment totalled €6.3m. The plant enables the company to recover 30,000 m³ of water annually and avoid 1,000 lorry journeys. This reduces the company’s CO₂ emissions by 79 per cent. Until recently, the 40,000 m³ of permeate produced annually during cheese production was transported by lorry for use in the manufacture of pig feed.

Capra employs 160 staff and processes 66m litres of goat’s milk annually into around 9,500 tons of cheese. Its annual turnover is €88m.
