EU and India – FTA does not really cover dairy

The European Union and India have concluded negotiations on a free trade agreement. The agreement is intended to create a free trade area for almost 2 billion people. Talks on a trade agreement began in 2007, were suspended in 2013 and resumed in 2022.
India’s exact concessions on dairy products under the EU agreement will be crucial to the attractiveness of the market for European suppliers. Agricultural products and dairy products are currently largely excluded. India is resisting EU demands to abolish tariffs on more than 95% of goods and is signalling a move towards 90%.
