Potential of plant-based dairy alternatives

At the Zenith Global Dairy Congress 2021, Ananda Roy, Senior Vice President – International IRI Worldwide, reported on ongoing developments in the mrkezt for plant-based dairy alternatives worldwide. He said that if manufacturers intend to exploit the category’s full potential they need to address three key challenges:

 

  • The myth that plant-based products are healthier – the industry must balance salt, fat and calories as well as develop less processed products
  • Achieving true food sustainability – with less tarnsport and responsible land and water use and affordability for all
  • Avoid SKU proliferation – reduced availability and confusing choice in stores may damage the devleopment of plant-based dairy alternatives.
