Schwälbchen Molkerei suffer from the consequences of the lockdown. The dairy business continues to show stable results, as chairman Günter Berz-List said. However, the catering produce service is causing concern. Orders had dropped by 50% during the peak phase of the Corona crisis in March and April. The decline in revenues was as high as 60%. To save costs, a third of the truck fleet at the Mainz and Ilsfeld locations was deregistered, and short-time work was introduced at both locations.
The dairy business was able to report a 2% increase in sales to around €45m in the first half of the year. Milk processing rose by 1.2% to 58m kg.
Revenues in the fresh produce service fell by a third to €34m. In total, Group sales in the first six months fell by 14% to €80m. In 2019 the Schwälbchen Group had achieved sales of around €184m.
