China is imposing import duties of 21.9 to 42.7 per cent on certain dairy products from the European Union, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce has announced. This is a provisional decision, valid from Tuesday, as a result of European export subsidies, according to the ministry. China launched an investigation in August 2024, focusing on fresh and processed cheese, among other things. According to the ministry, initial results show that European subsidies are causing considerable damage to the Chinese dairy sector.
