New scraped surface heat exchanger options reduce pressure drop and increase capacity

Waukesha Cherry-Burrell announced new configuration options for the Votator II scraped surface heat exchanger (SSHE), including a 3-inch diameter shaft and product heads with 4-inch port connections. This design helps processors reduce system pressure losses, support higher flow rates and improve overall line performance when heating and cooling high-viscosity products.

The updated configuration is especially valuable in cooling applications where pressure limitations can restrict throughput and accelerate wear on system components, particularly in processes such as mechanically deboned meat (MDM), pet food, and industrial grease processing. The new 3-inch shaft and 4-inch product-head connections can also be retrofitted into existing units.

Benefits of the new configurations include:

•             Lower pressure drop: Helps unlock additional capacity in existing and new systems.

•             Improved compatibility with larger interconnecting piping: Reduces restriction points between upstream/downstream equipment.

•             Flexible adoption: Retrofits into existing lines, in addition to being available in new Votator II lines.

•             Validated improvements: Shows proven performance through laboratory testing in Delavan, Wisconsin and customer field testing.
