Froneri Ice Cream is set to expand its production capacity in Germany with a major investment. The manufacturer of brands such as Häagen-Dazs, Mövenpick and Nuii is investing more than €30m in the plant at its headquarters in Osnabrück. In addition to extra production lines for private-label ice cream, Froneri is installing a fully automated line for family-size packs.

The manufacturer aims to have the new lines up and running in time for the 2027 season.

Froneri, formed in 2016 as a joint venture between Nestlé and R&R Ice Cream, is the number two player in the global ice cream market after The Magnum Ice Cream Company, a spin-off from Unilever. Last year, Froneri generated global turnover of just over €5.5bn. According to its annual report, €2.54bn of this came from Europe. Operating profit fell from €814m to €720m. In total, Froneri operates more than 30 plants worldwide, 20 of which are in Europe.

In Germany, the company has production facilities in Osnabrück and Uelzen. The ice cream manufacturer is estimated to have generated a turnover of around €500m in Germany recently, with a workforce of approximately 1,350 employees.
