China widens anti-subsidy investigation

Date: 22.11.2024Source: Reuters

China has extended its anti-subsidy investigation into dairy imports from the European Union to include the subsidy programmes of the EU as well as Denmark, France, Italy and the Netherlands. The world’s second largest economy launched the investigation into imports of cheese, milk and cream from the European Union in August in response to the EU’s tariff plans for electric vehicles manufactured in China. The new EU tariffs of up to 45.3% on Chinese electric vehicle imports came into force on 30 October.

The extension of the investigation by China includes programmes such as agricultural support, insurance and investment subsidies. According to Chinese customs data, the EU was China’s second largest source of dairy products, after New Zealand.
