FrieslandCampina and Arla Foods are said to be considering a merger. Although there are official denials, Foodbusiness.nl reports that F/C chairman Sybren Attema has been in talks with his counterpart at Arla, Jan Toft Nørgaard, for weeks, involving the management of both dairies.
A merger would create the world’s largest dairy company with sales of €22.7 billion, ahead of current No. 1 Lactalis. A merger requires the approval of the European Commission.
