Following media investigations into how they have handled recalls due to contamination of baby food across Europe, Nestlé and Danone are once again in the public spotlight. According to reports, there have been delays in notifying the authorities and in recalling potentially affected products linked to contaminated ingredients supplied by a Chinese manufacturer. Both companies deny any wrongdoing and state that they acted in accordance with regulatory requirements and safety regulations. As reported, the contamination was caused by cereulide, a toxin that can pose a risk to infants and has triggered recalls in several markets.
