Spanish billionaire Amancio Ortega, through his investment firm Pontegadea Inversiones, has acquired Canada’s biggest food distribution facility in Oshawa, Ontario. The investment totals $187m. The warehouse is leased to Lactalis, forming the worldwide biggest logistics hub of the company. The logistics hub (379,000 sqf) boasts an advanced storage infrastructure capable of housing up to 60,000 pallets distributed across specialized cooler and freezer environments.
The distribution center features a highly sustainable, eco-efficient architecture that is fully zero-carbon ready. The facility integrates a circular thermodynamics framework that fully reclaims waste heat generated by its intensive refrigeration system, redirecting the energy to heat the facility’s corporate offices and to melt snow on the exterior truck apron for enhanced operational safety.
