Danone’s baby food plant in Wexford, Ireland, is the world’s first climate-neutral production site for infant formula. This has been confirmed by the Carbon Trust. At the plant, 350 employees produce baby food under the brands Aptamil, Cow & Gate and Nutrilon, which is exported to 41 countries.
To ensure climate neutrality, the plant purchases green electricity and generates heat by burning wood. This has reduced CO2 emissions by 70% (= 10,000 t) compared to 2010. The remaining emissions are compensated. Product and packaging residues are collected and there is no waste that ends up in landfills.
Danone also wants to make the second Irish baby food plant in Macroom climate neutral. So far, gas has been burned for energy generation there.
