Alfa Laval has developed a new modular fermentation system specifically designed to meet the requirements of alternative protein producers. The system does away with traditional cooling jackets, relying instead on an external heat exchange circuit. This is intended to deliver greater energy efficiency, improved process control and consistent product quality.
According to the company, the system’s modular design makes it easy to scale and integrate into existing production environments. Components such as heat exchangers, control panels and valves are pre-assembled. This is intended to reduce engineering effort, shorten installation time and speed up commissioning.
Another focus is on retrofitting existing plants. According to Alfa Laval, existing tanks can be adapted to achieve commercial-grade performance. This should enable producers to avoid significant investment in new equipment.
