Müller uses 30% mechanically recycled PS in certain cups

Müller’s buttermilk and sour milk cups, sold in Germany, now contain 30% mechanically recycled PS. Developed with Ineos Styrolution and Optipack, the packaging exceeds the PPWR’s planned 10% recycled-content requirement for PS food packaging from 2030.

Müller has begun incorporating mechanically recycled polystyrene (PS) in its Müller Reine Buttermilch and Müller Allgäuer Dickmilch. Mechanically recycled PS, does not contribute to a “loss in material quality or performance compared to virgin material” , Müller is quoted.

Last year, the solution was introduced at Aldi Süd stores in Germany for sour cream cups. Ineos said the solution marks a “major step forward” in scaling recycled food packaging for mass-market use.
