Sales managers at German dairies see the latest price rise for butter as a sign of things to come for the ‘White Line’. Retailers have posted the first tenders for the ‘White Line’ online, with deliveries from 2027. Industry sources say the economic conditions clearly point towards price rises. Exports to the Middle East and Asia are going well. “Demand is very strong for all types of cheese,” according to the South German Butter and Cheese Exchange in Kempten. Prices for milk powder are continuing their upward trend there and on the international trading platform Global Dairy Trade, with some seeing sharp rises.

The protein business, in particular, is proving to be a source of satisfaction. According to the dairy industry, fresh dairy products such as liquid milk and quark are also set to become more expensive as a result of these market trends. Quark is benefiting from the protein trend and tight production capacities, and has already become more expensive over the course of the year. The price of fresh whole milk has remained stable throughout the year at 95 cents per litre.
