A landmark decision for the Austrian dairy industry was taken on 20 June 2026 at the Annual General Meeting of the Salzburger Alpenmilch Co-operative: By an ‘overwhelming’ majority, the delegates present voted in favour of the merger of the Salzburger Alpenmilch Genossenschaft eGen, as the acquiring cooperative, with the Pinzgau Milch Liefer- und Besitzgenossenschaft. Just two days earlier, the members of the Pinzgau Milch Besitzgenossenschaft had voted clearly in favour of the merger at a general meeting.
As a result of the now-approved merger of the two owner cooperatives – the Salzburg Alpine Milk Cooperative and the Pinzgau Milk Supply and Ownership Cooperative – their respective shares in Pinzgau Milch Produktions GmbH will be contributed, meaning that SalzburgMilch GmbH will in future hold 60 per cent of the shares in this company. In a further, final step, the complete merger of both operating companies into SalzburgMilch GmbH is planned, so that Salzburger Alpenmilch Holding GmbH will hold 90 per cent of the shares and HMP Immobilien Holding GmbH 10 per cent in future.
Following the merger of the cooperatives and the consolidation of the operating companies, around 3,200 farms will supply SalzburgMilch with premium milk. With annual milk deliveries of more than 460m kg, which are processed and refined at the four sites in Salzburg, Maishofen, Lamprechtshausen and Kössen, SalzburgMilch claim to be the largest specialist dairy in Central Europe.
