Meeting Scope 3 climate targets across the supply chain

Procurement teams managing dairy supply chains could gain new tools to address emissions reduction through a partnership between Ferrero and Arla. The collaboration, which launched in January 2025 through the FarmAhead Customer Partnership Program, connects sourcing decisions with measurable environmental action at farm level.

The approach combines financial incentives for farmers, access to primary carbon data and piloting of innovative practices. This model could offer procurement teams a framework for integrating sustainability criteria into supplier selection and performance monitoring across agricultural commodities.

The partnership is designed to provide Ferrero with direct access to primary farm-level carbon footprint data, moving beyond industry averages typically used in emissions calculations. This granular information could enable procurement teams to make more informed sourcing decisions based on actual environmental performance rather than estimates.

“FarmAhead is about supporting farmers as they take the next steps in their journey to reduce their climate impact,” says Cathrine Konge Varming, Senior Director, Sustainability Innovation & Development at Arla Foods. “By partnering with companies like Ferrero, we can help scale impact more effectively, combining incentives, data and innovation to support progress at farm level.”
