Danone is expanding its production capacity for medical nutrition in Europe. On 15 September, France’s largest production line for medical nutrition was commissioned at the Steenvoorde site. The construction of the new production line involved an investment of 70 million euros.
Thanks to this investment, the Steenvoorde plant is now one of Europe’s leading sites for specialised nutrition. The site brings together three production areas: infant formula, medical nutrition and specialised milk ingredients.
The project, which began in Steenvoorde in 2024, also includes a biomass boiler, which came into operation in February 2026 and helps to significantly reduce the site’s carbon footprint.
With a capacity of almost 20 million litres of oral nutritional supplements per year, the new production line will manufacture nearly 150 different Fortimel products.
