Müller sells delicatessen business

Date: 29.06.2021Source: LZ

After protracted negotiations, Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller (UTM) is selling the Homann delicatessen salads brand to Signature Foods, parent company of the Dutch salad producer Johma. Signature and Johma have been part of the portfolio of Pamplona Capital Management in London since the end of 2020.

The main site in Dissen will be closed, 400 employees are affected. In years, the management had not succeeded in making the operation profitable. A second plant in Bottrop is taken over by the Wernsing Group, parent company of Popp Feinkost. The market leader is thus once again increasing its capacity for salads

UTM is not withdrawing completely from the delicatessen market; the dairy group is holding on to the lucrative business with fish products and dressings. Feinkost 2020 contributed more than €635m to UTM’s group turnover of almost €6bn with brands such as Nadler, Hamker, Pfennigs, Hopf and many private labels.
